Polio appears to be alive and resistant to some types of vaccines. Many diseases could mutate like polio and we need to be constantly ready to deal with potential epidemics.  Ebola and Polio are the current dangers of the day.  I don't believe we can simply trust the medical community to handle the situation caused by new or mutated diseases.  Mistakes happen.  Smallpox samples were misplaced and that could happen with other deadly diseases.  Scientific arrogance or sympathy for victims could kill people.  The United States needs real laws to isolate dangerous diseases from our hemisphere when needed and to keep diseases isolated from other countries when the disease originates here.

I thought it was arrogant and foolish to bring the Ebola patients back to this hemisphere.  I am glad they had the best available treatment and lived.  What if they had infected other people?  This may sound ridiculous  but I think the United Nations should establish one or more large advanced medical ships with helicopter landing capability to deal with these types of diseases or other medical emergencies world wide.  This would allow medical care to maintain a quarantine on new deadly diseases.  Only the people on the ship would be lost in a crises rather than spreading the disease to our entire hemisphere.
