Rosetta spacecraft meets comet after epic journey

I suspect that eventually we will need to redirect a comet or asteroid to avoid a collision with earth so its a good thing the Rosetta spacecraft was able to rendezvous with this comet.  Its good practice but they should have brought a fake nuclear bomb along  to plant on the comet. I think it would be a good idea to have a space craft permanently stationed in orbit to intercept any type of inbound asteroid that could be dangerous to earth. There may not be time to dial NASA when the asteroid is discovered a day away from earth impact.
