Image via WikipediaI have never used marijuana but I think the time has come to legalize it for simple practical reasons. Alcohol and tobacco are dangerous but legal. It is hypocritical to allow Alcohol and tobacco to be legal and not allow some form of marijuana legalization. More dangerous drugs should still be kept illegal but these drugs do not have the same amount of current users as marijuana because most people are not completely stupid. The largest cash crop in the U.S. is currently marijuana and I think it should be taxed to reduce our national debt. The money spent on police enforcement of marijuana laws would be better spent on cancer research or some other noble purpose. Who is being fooled by the current laws against marijuana? These laws create a black market for marijuana just like prohibition did at one time. Criminals loved prohibition but eventually they lost their market when it was repealed. Why should policemen die for marijuana enforcement when they could be better used catching real violent criminals?
