I have been a member of a church that was somewhat like the one described in this article. Those "more spiritual" members of the church always seem to deserve "more" than the rest of the members. This can take other forms besides financial but financial benefits are more easy to see and understand. People who claim to hear directly from God usually have ulterior motives even if they are self-delusional. An appeal to a miraculous power such as outlined in the book of Acts usually means that the person in power wants something from you. The Apostles gave their lives and we have their writings. Todays religious hucksters should be avoided. Compare the teachings of the Apostles to the teachings of those religious teachers who claim to have supernatural powers today.
