The situation in Egypt seems bad for the people there.

Egypt: GizehImage by Brooklyn Museum via FlickrThe government of Egypt is certainly not a representative democracy so I don't blame the citizen's for revolting against the government.  Americans who are in Egypt shouldn't be there in the first place.  Playing tourist is all fun and games until someone hits you over the head with a club. UW Milwaukee sent students to Egypt and now they are in danger.  Couldn't someone have thought about this type of problem in advance?  Non-democratic countries can dissolve at any time due to their inherent instability.  This situation is magnified  by new Internet social networking capabilities.  Riots caused by the Internet have even happened in Wauwatosa's Mayfair Mall on a smaller scale so it is only reasonable to expect bigger riots in countries that really have something to complain about..

China’s Dollar Concerns « Liveshots

Terracotta Army detail, Xi'an, China Photo by ...Image via Wikipedia
The Chinese are correct to be concerned over our currency. I don't know much about money but I do know that forced inflation of the US dollar will cause China's greenback reserves and the U.S. debt they hold to lose value. This is as simple as saying that the U.S. is stealing China's money. Maybe this will help our country economically but it doesn't seem morally right.

Reading book by President George W Bush.

Official photograph portrait of former U.S. Pr...Image via WikipediaI am reading Decision Points by President Bush. He really has a good sense of humor and seems willing to give some of the more negative details of his life along with the positive points.  I'd like to have his Crawford Ranch because it sounds like a great place to live.  He would probably have the highest approval rating of any President if he had not invaded Iraq at all and simply contained it.  His approval ratings after 9/11 and the initial invasion of Afghanistan were high and they probably would have stayed there if not for subsequent problems.  I think his foreign policy was not all bad but his domestic policy was very weak.  The standard Republican mantra policies are not capable of dealing with the real domestic problems in the U.S. although they are not all wrong.  Bush seems to have a simplistic view of domestic policies which are probably due to the way his parents raised him and his early environment.  President Bill Clinton was kind of a jerk but he seemed to have more empathy with the average person than Bush.  Bush's book seems to show a lack of empathy for anyone outside of his immediate circle of friends.  He seems to live in a bubble but I suppose there is a lot of that going around.

Sleeping with dogs, cats exposes pet owners to nasty diseases, paper says - latimes.com

Maine coon kittensImage by eleda 1 via Flickr
I think the Doctors doing the research in this article shouldn't sleep in the same bed with anyone themselves because people probably transmit more diseases than pets. The Doctors say the pets can cause bubonic plague? This sounds like medicine from the Middle Ages. Cats were blamed for the bubonic plague in the dark ages so they were all killed and this allowed rats (the true plague carriers) to spread the plague.

(Just thought I would put in a commercial for Froedtert to brighten up Kathy's day :)

Doctor said there is no reason for immediate concern about Asbestos exposure.

Bronchi and bronchioles. The lungs have been w...Image via WikipediaAlthough my lungs do show some evidence of asbestos exposure, it does not seem to be a problem at this time.  They will just watch it as time progresses because there is not much else they can do. I read that there is some research that seems to also link some limited cases of Crohn's disease with past asbestos exposure but it has never been proven.  My Crohn's disease seems to be a far bigger problem than my lungs at this time.  The asbestos exposure I had was not direct and heavy but would have consisted primarily of residual asbestos that could probably not have been totally decontaminated at the plant. I think they should demolish that plant and let the area revert back to nature for a few hundred years just to be sure that the asbestos is really cleaned up.  I read someplace that there is only a skeleton crew working there at this time and the building is up for sale.

We are watching Dante's Peak on DVD.

Federal Emergency Management AgencyImage via WikipediaThis DVD reminds me of the current unexplained situation the U.S. is experiencing with the bird and fish kills. I find the government explanation of fireworks to be weak because multiple events are occurring over a large but limited geographic area.  I personally suspect that the events are not being induced by human activity such as firecrackers but are instead being caused by a natural phenomenon isolated to a specific geographic region.  There is an earthquake fault line that roughly seems to correspond to the area of the animal deaths so it does not seem that foolish to suspect some type of geological activity related to it. I have read articles that strongly ridicule this idea.

The government has a legitimate interest in keeping everyone calm because it is very probable that nothing geologically bad will happen so I do not trust the information that the government puts out on this subject.   Property values in geologically suspect areas drop drastically and the government is ruled by politics so it is unlikely that they would cause a panic by making statements about future  earthquake probability even with good evidence.  FEMA does have some literature about earthquake fault lines but they do not tie it to any type of imminent threat based on recent evidence.

I don't know the severity of the situation because there is a lot of technical jargon in the report but the parts I do understand seem to say that there is something wrong with at least one of my lungs because of asbestos.

Panel approves Medicaid programs audit - JSOnline

Republicans love to cut health programs for poor people to balance the budget. It makes it look better if the health program is audited first so that the cuts can be justified as eliminating corruption and waste. Would Jesus let people suffer and die to save a buck in the name of efficiency? Obamacare may be far from perfect but we need something close to it in this country because Republicans do not give a damn about poor people who do not vote for them. Walker bill puts $500 million in wind turbine investment at risk - JSOnline

Micon wind turbine, Dithmarschen.Image via WikipediaI think Walker's windmill setback bill is probably a good thing. Large industrial windmills have health effects if they are placed too near people's homes and this can drastically lower future property values. These types of windmills should only be put in areas with sufficient setbacks. Windmills will never be able to generate enough power for everyones energy needs although they may make a moderate contribution. Redesigned Nuclear power plants put on the same sites as old plants are the only power source that can supply enough power to be realistic as a major source of power for the future.  Everyone from Bush to Obama knows this to be true when they are given the facts.  Walker bill puts $500 million in wind turbine investment at risk - JSOnline

Police Release Documents Detailing Contact With Arizona Gunman Prior to Deadly Rampage - FoxNews.com

The Arizona Gunman was not politically motivated from what I have read. He was a dangerous nut that needed help sooner than he got it. It was wrong for Democrats to try to use this as an issue to silence rhetoric from more extreme Republicans. Political rhetoric comes from both parties and is equally extreme. The national news media takes sides on these types of issues depending on which way they like to spin their news. It is wrong to lie by slanting the news in a time of human tragedy.
