Diabetes

Judy's diabetes count always seem to drop dangerously low at this time of day.

Is drinking alcohol contrary to the Bible?

Drunkenness of Noah
Drunkenness of Noah (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Some Churches forbid their members from drinking alcohol.  Forcing a Christian to pledge not to drink in order to join a Church is contrary to the Bible.  Drunkenness is clearly forbidden by the Bible but not everyone who drinks alcohol gets drunk.  Pledges of not drinking are a ritual that have no place in determining who should be allowed to join a Church.  Churches that force you to make many pledges based on regional religious prejudice should read their Bible's more carefully.

Barrett seems to be a better choice for Governor than Walker for low to middle income people in Wisconsin.  If you are rich and don't want to pay taxes then Walker is the obvious choice.  I doubt that Barrett can win based on the current poll numbers so it probably doesn't make too much difference what I think.  There is class warfare in this state and it is clear which side is winning.

Does Obama have a policy of appeasement?

WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 1: In this handout image...
WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 1: In this handout image provided by The White House, President Barack Obama talks on the phone in the Oval Office before making a statement to the media about the mission against Osama bin Laden, May 1, 2011 in Washington, DC. The President made a series of calls, including to Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton and others, to inform them of the successful mission. U.S. President Barack Obama announced that the United States had killed the most-wanted terrorist Osama Bin Laden in an operation led by U.S. Special Forces at a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. (Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)
Osama bin Laden was shot dead by Seal Team Six on Pakistani soil.  That does not sound like appeasement to me.

President Obama's foreign policy is balanced and intelligent.  If Obama is appeasing our enemies, I do not see any evidence of it.  Facebook has some type of page you can like if you think Obama has a policy of appeasement.  That is one page that I will not like.

Different type of Crohn's pain.

I experienced a new type of pain which I suspect is due to Crohn's.  I have no G.I. related pain at the moment but all my joints and muscles jumped up to a significant pain level.  I could barely get out of bed for about a day which is pretty unusual for this type of pain because it has never been this intense before.

Is military service a Christian thing to do?

SEYMOUR, CT - MAY 29: Civil War reenactors ma...
SEYMOUR, CT - MAY 29: Civil War reenactors march during the Memorial Day Parade in the economically stressed region of the Connecticut Valley on May 29, 2011 in Seymour, Connecticut. Hundreds of towns and cities across America will celebrate Memorial Day with parades, cookouts and family gatherings. Memorial Day, the unofficial start to the summer season, was conceived as a day for Americans to commemorate U.S. Service Members who died in every war, including current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. (Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)
Depends if the person is a Christian.  Some Churches have it written in their constitution or bylaws that military service is essentially always the wrong thing to do.  I have not found that statement in my Bible.  Our military has obviously done some things that are atrocities but at the same time it is absolutely necessary to use deadly force at times.  I believe that God expects us to take care of these situations using the physical means at he gave us which may include killing people.  God has given us a conscience to decide what is right or wrong.

Churches that do not give proper honor to veterans in this country are not in compliance with what the Bible teaches.  This is especially true on Memorial day.

15000 pageviews

This blog just passed 15000 page views.  I hope there was something that helped or at least entertained all those people.  I would hate to be boring people and at the same time not doing them any good.  I never thought that I would get this many page views when I started the blog.  It kind of makes me feel good.

I need air conditioning.

I need air conditioning because of some of the medications that I take.  Even a temperature in the higher 70's makes me a little queasy even though some people think I am a wimp or nuts for saying that.  I know from experience that if I stay too long in temperatures above 90 I will have some serious problems rather quickly.  We are going to my nieces graduation next week and I am not sure if the gym is air conditioned so I just started to actually worry a little bit.  I am OK for a short duration but I may put the Doctors warning to the test at a longer graduation.

One Cherry.

I have exactly one surviving cherry on my Carmine Jewel Cherry bush.  The bad weather ruined the rest of them.  Maybe next year!

Bought a cheap Kindle Fire on Ebay.

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 28: Amazon founder J...
NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 28: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos holds the new Amazon tablet called the Kindle Fire on September 28, 2011 in New York City. The Fire, which will be priced at $199, is an expanded version of the company’s Kindle e-reader that has 8GB of storage and WiFi. The Fire gives users access to streaming video, as well as e-books, apps and music, and has a Web browser. In addition to the Fire, Bezos introduced four new Kindles including a Kindle touch model. (Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)
I finally realized that I do not have any self-control so I bought a reduced price Kindle Fire on Ebay with their special credit offer.  I can hardly wait to start downloading free apps and e-books.  One problem.  I can't get the bloody seller to ship the Kindle!  I have been waiting a full week and the shipped symbol just does not light up.  I have contacted the seller and she seems to be having a legitimate problem but it is actually starting to irritate me having to wait so long.

Is religion the cause of the world's problems?

Depends on the religion.  Human's choose to be evil themselves and they really can't blame religion for their own actions even if the religion isn't the best.  Most religions consist of a mixture of truth and lies.  In my opinion, the closest religion to the truth would follow Jesus teachings but humanity has continuously added lies to Jesus teachings until their religion is bloated with extraneous material that causes a lot of harm.  Subtracting from Jesus words is somewhat more difficult since the Bible is the best documented book in existence from its time period.  Even some History teachers at UW-Milwaukee use the Biblical text in their classes because of its excellent historical information content.

A significant percentage of the world's problems are directly due to imperfect religion.  Any reasonable person can see that is true.  Jesus said he was the Truth.  If Jesus was telling a lie in this statement then his religion would be false.  Can anyone tell me that Jesus words are the cause of the world's problems? If so, then which words are those?

Can science tell the difference between good and evil?

Pure science does not seem to have the capacity to tell the difference between good and evil.  Most human children raised in a loving home probably have this capability even if they don't act like it.  The definition of good and evil actions is not possible using science and yet it is probably the most important thing that humanity does.  Science gives us the capability to produce atomic weapons, abort children, wage war, and generally cause harm to our hearts content.  Which of these things does science teach us is evil?  Atheistic scientific philosophy can't come to any real conclusions because it has no way to objectively measure good versus evil.

Hitler, Stalin and others committed evil actions because their atheistic philosophies told them they were doing something right.  Most people can agree that their actions were evil.  The scientific knowledge they used to accomplish their goals was not evil or good even though it was used for evil goals.

Jesus clearly taught his definition of evil and good.  It is unfortunate that some people are not capable of accepting his simple definitions and they seek the definition of good versus evil in atheistic scientific philosophy.  Science is many times used to undermine the accuracy of the Bible which contains Jesus words but the problem is that there is no atheistic philosophy that produces better results than what Jesus said to do.  Jesus teachings are not incompatible with science because true science is essentially neutral regarding good and evil.  Atheism generally produces evil results and true Christianity generally produces good results from what I have seen so far in life.  Even many non-Christian religions produce good results when compared to the results of atheism.  It's too bad that science can't measure these simple results that seem obvious to many people.

Crohn's disease will not win

I really can't figure out what I could do to make any real changes in my Crohn's symptoms.  My symptoms just do not follow any eating patterns and appear to be heavily random.  Obviously I can give myself symptoms by eating lots of foods that tend to bring on attacks but many times I get symptoms for no apparent reason.  Sometimes I eat things that I shouldn't and I feel just fine.  I believe that a regular diet will not make any difference in the frequency of attacks for me.

Scallop squash

I planted some scallop squash in containers yesterday.  The scallops grew like a rocket with plenty of production last year but most of the other veggies flopped.  They taste pretty good too.

I have a combination of Smart Pots and self-watering containers.  Both work well.  A large Smart Pot works the best for the Carmine Jewel cherry bush.  The self watering container is nice because you do not need to water as often.  I do not use regular pots for veggies or fruit because the regular pots just do not work as well.

Once was not enough.  We are going to watch all of the Dr Who's on Netflix again in order.  All 82 of them.

They are not that bad and I usually do something else while I am watching them with Judy.  I missed quite a few that Judy saw so the ones I missed will provide a little more interest.  OK, Dr Who does  not totally rock my world but it is something we can watch together and it seems to make Judy happy.  I don't really watch too many TV shows or movies because I am never able to sit still long enough to enjoy them anyways.

The new series Sherlock looks promising so we may watch that when it comes out on Netflix.  We do not have cable TV because we are trying to save a few dollars but I like Netflix/Hulu better because it plays on my schedule.

I am not a big fan of any politician but do I really need to listen to Scott Walker commercials on every channel.  Listening to these commercials is starting to cause me undue mental anguish and I think I should be able to sue in a court of law.  Jobs are important but shouldn't the Governor also look out for the rights of everyone instead of systematically destroying them so he can please his rich right wing political contributors?

Ebay beats Amazon

Ebay has some pretty good deals on a lot of things that I was going to buy someday on Amazon.  Amazon still wins in price on some things but I will definitely check Ebay's price on anything that they might handle.  Ebay has used items that can do the same job for a low price and it also carries new items at a lower price than Amazon for some items.

Armageddon or Ragnarok?

Will the universe end in Ragnarok or Armageddon?  I am not sure myself but the earth will be burned up long before then so the death rattle of the universe does not concern me yet.  Armageddon is for the earth according to the Bible and I doubt if the scientists speculating on the end of the universe really know what they are talking about.  They have impressive sounding degrees and talk pretty good but they are just taking an "educated" guess.  Creation myths and myths about the end of the universe are not exclusive to religions of various types because scientists are now taking their best shot at creating new myths based on the current theory of the moment.  I am not against science and I even like science fiction but speculative science should be careful to label itself instead of just perpetuating propaganda as truth that bums out people.

Glass Bottle Art

I am selling the following two glass artwork objects on ebay.  They may not be equal to the best crystal in the world but I like them.  The first is a terrarium and can be used for other purposes.  The second is a planter.

I would like to move to Hartford as soon as Josh is settled in at his new job and new apartment.  Hartford is somewhat like the promised land for me.  At least Hartford has everything that I need and it is not tremendously far away from Milwaukee if I do need to go to the city.  I don't like to drive too much anymore due to health/comfort reasons but I can if I really need to.  There is even a bus if I need to use it.

Josh appears to be doing well

Josh seems to be on the right track with his career and license.  I hope everything goes well for him but I wish he would stop smoking before he ends up coughing up his lungs.  Maybe when everything calms down to a normal level he will be able to switch to the electronic cigarette from NJOY or something like it.
